    It happened to me again about a half hour ago. I did some digging, checking port connections on the OS, and looking at the web console in Firefox. [Once it starts, the issue happens on any browser on my Mac, including Chrome and Safari.]

    It may be related to the changeover in hosting. The old bookmark I have is

    http://www.orangeandblack.net/philly...ey-and-the-NHL

    and that redirects to the current site:

    http://www.orangeandblack.net/philly...y-and-the-NHL=

    The web console said the redirect took over 50 seconds. And that was on the first page I finally got to load. For about 10 minutes before that, nothing happened. I could see the connections sitting in SYN_SENT state, which is the first step of the connection when you try and open a new link. My computer was waiting to hear back and was not getting any acknowledgement.

    This is what netstat showed:

    Active Internet connections
    Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)
    ...
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50143 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50142 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50141 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50140 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50139 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50138 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50137 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50136 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50130 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT
    tcp4 0 0 192.168.1.4.50128 orangeandblack.n.http SYN_SENT

    Something could be going on with whatever processes the redirect on the site side. Not sure if that could explain the site freezing once you are already in it though, unless that redirect is somehow happening on every page.

    Oh, and there was also one error in the console about some missing/bad CSS.

    "Style sheet could not be loaded. http://www.orangeandblack.net/phillyboard/core/clientscript/vbulletin_css/style00027l/1449767620-cs_additional.css"

      Also wondering why the redirect is a type 302... that's only meant to be used temporarily like during a maintenance outage.

      curl -v orangeandblack.net
      * Rebuilt URL to: orangeandblack.net/
      * Trying 107.170.168.166...
      * Connected to orangeandblack.net (107.170.168.166) port 80 (#0)
      > GET / HTTP/1.1
      > Host: orangeandblack.net
      > User-Agent: curl/7.43.0
      > Accept: */*
      >
      < HTTP/1.1 302 Found
      < Date: Sun, 10 Jan 2016 02:54:06 GMT
      < Server: Apache/2.4.7 (Ubuntu)
      < X-Powered-By: PHP/5.5.9-1ubuntu4.14
      < Location: /phillyboard/
      < Content-Length: 1
      < Connection: close
      < Content-Type: text/html
      <
      * Closing connection 0

        OK I think I figured out what is going on. The server must have some kind of security configuration that bans requests from IP addresses that make too many requests too fast. The way I read the forums probably makes it look like a bot or spider is hitting the site and not a human.

        I don't like waiting for pages to load so when I'm on the page listing all the threads, I right click on the threads I want to read one after the other, and select "open in new tab." That way they all load in the background while I am reading the first one, and I don't have to wait after that. Some other vbulletin sites I like have tons of ads and going from the main thread list page, into a thread, back to the list, etc. takes forever. I got into the habit there and do it here too.

        If something is going on and there are lots of threads being updated on a given day, and I open a bunch of them really fast, then my IP apparently gets banned for a while. Sort of strange that this just became noticeable recently, since I've been reading this way without problems for a long time.

        This is what it looks like when I'm on time-out.

        time curl -v orangeandblack.net
        * Rebuilt URL to: orangeandblack.net/
        * Trying 107.170.168.166...
        * connect to 107.170.168.166 port 80 failed: Operation timed out
        * Failed to connect to orangeandblack.net port 80: Operation timed out
        * Closing connection 0
        curl: (7) Failed to connect to orangeandblack.net port 80: Operation timed out

        real 1m3.603s
        user 0m0.005s
        sys 0m0.008s

        Maybe I'll just try and be more patient when I'm reading and that should resolve it.

          I do the same thing. it results in a temporary ip ban for some reason
          Pieces are in place for the future. We still need a top pairing defenseman and a scoring winger. Doesn't look like we are going to get anything from Free Agency or a trade due to our cap limitations. Development years ahead.

            If it is a Linux server, the likely place to find the config is in /etc/sysconfig/iptables. There's probably a limit on the number of concurrent open connections to port 80 per IP.

                So I guess it is on my end. Firefox somehow is ****ed up here right now. Chrome works at this site so... I think my issue started when I accidentally hit the emoji icon, cause I was posting fine until i did that. I am going to reinstall Firefox to see if it helps.

                EDIT: All good. Sorry for the panic attack!

                  When clicking on the "View First Unread" message button, I am taken to the top of the page with the last unread message, but not to the message itself.

                  I'm using Chrome.

                    This should be fixed, it was a conflict with ShoutBox.

                      Hey Ice...when i post using my smart phone, i see weird characters (ie. "*") that show up. Is this an issue with my phone or the website (not sure what you need to know, but i am using Chrome on my Samsung 4). You can see this on the first post on this thread (http://www.orangeandblack.net/philly...t-flyers-blues). If i try to create a new paragraph, i get a bunch of strange characters (i normally delete these by editing my post).
