I love that game...had bronchitis, worked that day....passed out during the game and woke up just in time to see the goal...

....what exactly did 4.2m buy the Flyers the last 3 years? Other than chasing the playoffs and being exhausted?!

I too wish we kept him but his body of work so far shows he just can't win in the playoffs. What's the point of being in the NHL? To win a Cup. Can't do that if he can't win in the playoffs. Winning streaks are nice but a Cup is the goal.
Pieces are in place for the future. We still need a top pairing defenseman and a scoring winger. Doesn't look like we are going to get anything from Free Agency or a trade due to our cap limitations. Development years ahead.

That's a curious view....29 teams will be absolute failures this season...since the point of being in the NHL is to win the Cup...

Should Edmonton fail to win the cup, MacDavid is a choker and a failure? Point totals are nice..but winning the cup is the goal.

Wayne Gretzky played 20 NHL seasons, 16 of those were pointless...

The year he scored 92 goals? meh...Edmonton didn't win the cup. The year he posted 215 points? meh...no cup!

          Four-fifths of the Great One's career...just meh!

I honestly don't mind trading Bob, it was necessary in the situation...much like trading JVR....

I mind people trying to down play just how good he is at his position because it makes them feel better (which is weird because a lot of those same people fluff the hell out of JVR)..

Yup, Bob isn't winning the Cup this season....neither is Carey Price...who was pretty abysmal in the playoffs leading up to his current 6yr/39m 6.5m cap hit deal...and hasn't gotten much better especially if we're measuring things by Cups...

Bob's not winning a cup this season with Columbus...but he does have a shot at the Vezina and the Hart...that says something about how good a player he is...

There's more to it than winning the Cup....

Not really when you consider Bob was pretty average. Look at Talbot and Rinne. They are arguably the best player on their teams. Can't say that about Bob. He may learn to deal with pressure but right now he's failing the team.

He's nominated for the Vezina and Hart and somehow also failing the team?!

Talbot!? Talbot is not arguably the best player on his team...that's flat out silly to say. Also, given his penchant to throw out those 5 and 6 goal clunkers it may be early to ordain him in the postseason.

And I'm going to have to point out that Pekka for all of his great regular season numbers hasn't won a Cup. And has never made it out off the second round.

So this "Cup metric" only applies to Bob or what?

Talbot has been under siege in a few games these playoffs and has made quite a few game saving stops. Bobrovsky simply didn't come close to the level of play needed in the playoffs. The Hart and Vezina are not the Stanley Cup. Bob was not very good these playoffs and he plays for a Coach whose teams block a ton of shots.

Compare Bobs regular season to this years playoff stats or to his career playoff stats. Not the kind of thing you want to see if the goal is a Cup

And you're still avoiding a few things Evee..

Chief among them being neither Talbot not Rinne have won the Cup this year, which is your measuring stick.

Second being that for as great as Rinne has been in the regular season in years past, he's never won a cup of gotten out of the second round.

Third of course being that Lynchmob wanted to talk cap hit and that's a regular season number...just like Hart and Vezina are regular season awards...

Finally, you set the Cup as the only measure of success and are now avoiding quite a bit of hockey reality. Gretzky's not the Great One because he won 4 cups in 20 years Evee. There's more to hockey than the Cup. And a lot of great players who never won one...

Oh and Talbot isn't even arguably the best player in Edmonton....that's just silly...Even on a bad night McDavid is the best player in Edmonton...And has to be treated as such

Wondering if you really want to do this...

...because even goalies with amazing playoff stars have found it hard to get out of the second round in their careers (Hi Mr. Holtby) and goalies with very average playoff numbers have found themselves winning the Cup (Hi Mr. Fleury) and some very streaky playoff performers have found themselves shutout on playoff success but lauded as the best goalie in hockey (Hi Mr. Price)

...so again...is this going to be one of those Bob only measurements of success?
