    Draft Night Postmortem

    To sum it up:

    OUT: Schenn
IN: Patrick, Lehtera, Frost, 2018/19 First, (2020 Third)

That's good, no matter how you slice it, how you feel about individual pieces.

    ---

    Questions that pop up.

1: Does Patrick's arrival end the attempt to make Couturier a scoring line center?

2: Did the Flyers just send the Blues a Jeff Carter? A guy who takes the next step elsewhere?

3: Can the Blues use the Backes playbook and redefine the storyline on Schenn out of Philly?

4: Lehtera is 29 with 218 Games Played, 30 career goals and 100 points. Is that a problem?

5: Is Hextall done shaking up the roster? What's left to add and how?

Here's an article reviewing all of the 2017 Flyers draft picks.

I'd have no problem with resigning Mason to a 2 yr. Would prefer him to Bernier. But would also have no issue with Bernier on a cheap deal (same for Brian Elliott).

I like the draft, even if Patrick isnt playing here next season. I think he did a good mix of grabbing kids around where they should have been drafted and stashing a few potential boom/bust players later. Its a shame loosing Schenn but I think with Patrick and Lindblom they are going to need to make room and I think they got a PEB replacement and two 1st round picks. I kinda think Couturier might be next out the door -- hes kinda stagnated and at 24 might have hit his ceiling.

What I love about his shots is they are almost all targeted for the corners...something the current Flyers roster could use, as they mainly seem to aim for the middle of the goalies chest!

    6. Did the Flyers waste the 1st they got for Schenn?

One day removed from the draft I think giving the benefit of the doubt to the same decision makers who picked Sanheim "potentially" too high, who traded up to pick Konecny "who was supposed to go higher, but who was passed over", and who, according to Hexy, "all agreed" on them Frost pick makes sense. Of course, Frost could be a bust, but Hexy and his team seem to have done a nice job on draft day the last few years; particularly on these mid to late first rounders. I'll wait and see on Rubstov, who had an unusual year given his situation in Russia and his injuries in the "Q". However, the reports of the games he did play in North America were very good.

    Time will tell.
