    wow, that's a lot.

Not saying its out of line with say kane or toews or malkin deals, but in a cap world that's a huge amount on one guy

Very shortsighted by McDavid if he actually wants to win the cup. Crosby took less money for the team. He could have taken 9 mill/year to ensure the Oilers could surround him with some talent. He's going to make a lot of money off the ice as the new face of the NHL.

When Crosby's deal kicked in it was 15.34% of the cap. McDavid's deal will be 17.66% of the cap, not a huge difference. At $9mil it would have only been 12%

They are investing 58% of their cap on 7 players (McDavid, RNH, Lucic, Sekera, Klefbom, Russell and Larsson) through 2020-2021, so it will be interesting to see how they will manage the other 13 active contracts with the remaining $31.7 million.

This doesn't include Draisaitl either, who is a current RFA....let's say conservatively that his cap hit will be $6 mil (AAV) on his new deal...that will leave Edm with $25.7 left for 12 active contracts through 2021....they will be forced to go super cheap for their role players!

On TSN1050 (Toronto), Pierre McGuire and Gord Miller were discussing how if the $13.25 contract is close to being reality, this is the perfect time for a team to come in an offer sheet Draisaitl. Interesting.

Someone should tell Gord and Pierre I was talking about that a month ago.

I wish BC or Homer were still running the Flyers. How does $10 x 7 sound Edmonton? BOOM!

Homers offer sheet to Kesler in hindsight was a great movbe, considering the player he turned into.

I guess this means that Giroux and even Voracek aren;t as overpaid as we think. ESPN thinks that Drasaitl will get Tarasenko money, so that's 7.5-8.5mil a year, so almost 22mil LONG TERM on two players on a pretty young team, that's suicidal.

I'd rather have Giroux, voracek and Simmonds and some spare change. Its not just the production, its the over reliance on two players who could get injured at any point. Also the most important factor is the length of those deals, that's a ton of money tied up long term, their current RFAs and future UFA/RFAs are screwed there.
