The hockey writers are pretty crap writing/analysis though. I can't read much of what they write.

          I'm with you on that.

I'm not sure if we're #1, but pretty certain we're top 5 which is a refreshing change...

To be fair, we've had ghost, provorov, koneckny, weal, pretty established as top 4 dmen and top 6 forwards in the NHL just in the past year really, with laughton and stolarz just outside.

Now this year we're looking at Patrick, Lindblom, Sanheim joining them, with Morin, Hagg, Leier just outside.

At this rate the entire roster is turned over in five seasons and that's impressive.

            Adding top prospects in:
            Hart, Sandstrom in goal
Morin, Myers, Hagg, Friedman on defense
Radcliffe, Frost, Rubtsov, Allison at forward (Two of which should be top 6 forwards)

that's some well balanced and promising youth. Its a real hope for the near future. Maybe not yet, but give them a year or two.

This is the plan that will hopefully get us where we want to be. Positive patrol!

ESPN analyst ranks Flyers' farm system No. 1 in NHL

Ron Hextall never told fans to "trust the process," but apparently any faith in the Flyers' GM has been vindicated.

At least that's the case if you believe ESPN NHL writer Corey Pronman's latest farm system rankings (it's an Insider story, so apologies in advance). Pronman has the Flyers' farm ranked as No. 1 in the NHL.

"The Flyers don't have as much game-breaking talent as our No. 2 team (Coyotes) does at the top of their system," Pronman writes, "but 2017 No. 2 overall pick Nolan Patrick is right up there; after Patrick, the Flyers have the cupboards lined with talent at every position."

Pronman credits the Flyers with nailing his first-round picks (Patrick, Ivan Provorov), grabbing middle-round prospects that have blossomed (Shayne Gostisbehere, Oskar Lindblom) and specifically mentions Phil Myers, an undrafted defenseman that has become "one of the very best defense prospects in hockey."

For so long, the Flyers' organization was perpetually in "win-now mode," but the late Ed Snider hired Hextall away from the Kings and eventually made him GM, knowing that Hexy was taking a broader view of the organization. Instead of trading away young talent and draft picks for aging veterans, Hextall restocked a dreadful farm system to get the team where it is today.

"Not too long ago, the Flyers' farm system was a laughingstock, with C-grade college free agents making it into their top five," Pronman said. "Today, they are in the best position of any NHL team in terms of adding young premium players to their roster."

                  The Hockey News:
2020 Vision: What the Philadelphia Flyers will look like in three years

If defense wins championships, the Flyers will soon be beasts – assuming they can find goaltending by 2019-20.
                  ...
If the Flyers can time everything right, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with in 2019-20. But it’s a bit of a high-wire act. Excellent drafting and signing under GM Ron Hextall has stocked the bins full of prospects, many of whom we have already seen (Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny) or are about to see (Travis Sanheim and Philippe Myers, for example). Now, can Philadelphia’s players all sync up at the same time? Claude Giroux, Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds will all be 30 or older by then, with a lot of miles on them. On the other hand, that’s not ancient, and kids like Konecny and Nolan Patrick will certainly help up front.

The blueline will be a huge strength, even though Andrew MacDonald will still technically be on the payroll. Really, coach Dave Hakstol has a great competition on his hands, since we didn’t even have space for Robert Hagg or Mark Friedman.

In net, the Flyers may run into trouble (big shocker there). Carter Hart is the future No. 1, but he’ll still be pretty young in 2020. Right now, the Flyers are going with Brian Elliott and Michal Neuvirth. Neither veteran will be around that long.

GOT IT: Defensemen – and skilled ones, at that. Provorov is already looking like a surefire top pair guy, while Gostisbehere has shown high upside. Sanheim, Myers and Morin are all towers, with...
