  • Morin, Martel Recalled

Finally, Sam Morin is up with the big club. Mark Alt is going back down and Matt Read was already waived. Martel has been tearing it up in the AHL, so maybe he can bring some scoring flair to the big club.

Personally, I would have kept Alt in the lineup over Manning. Alt has been doing his job, not noticeable in a good way. Manning has been horrendous. But MacDonald is back on Friday most likely so it's only one more game.

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have recalled forward Danick Martel and defenseman Samuel Morin from their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. In addition, the club has loaned forward Matt Read and defenseman Mark Alt to the Phantoms, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

Both Morin and Martel will be available for tonight's game at Brooklyn against the Islanders. Morin will wear #5, while Martel will wear #70.

Martel earns his first recall to the NHL and, should he be in the lineup, he will make his NHL debut.

He currently leads the Phantoms as well as all players in the AHL with 14 goals, while also leading the team in overall scoring with 19 points, which ranks fifth in the league, in 17 games.

He appeared in one preseason game for the Flyers during training camp, Sept. 20 in Brooklyn against the Islanders, where he logged 17:02 of ice time.

The 5'8", 167-pound Martel enters his fourth season in the Flyers organization with this being his third full year. He has a total of 57 goals and 42 assists for 99 points in 157 regular season games.

Morin has five points (1g-4a) in 10 games, while recording a plus-6 rating and 20 penalty minutes for the Phantoms this season, his third since turning professional.

He missed five games with the Phantoms due to a lower-body injury that prevented him from being recalled by the club earlier in the season. Since his return to the Phantoms lineup, he has one assist in two games.

Alt returns to the Phantoms after appearing in six games where he went scoreless and had a plus-1 rating and logged an average of 13:06 ice time per-game. Read appeared in four games during his recall, going scoreless and also recording a plus-1. He logged an average of 10:54 of time-on-ice.

Happy to know that management is doing something...

I hope Martel will be given a chance to play with some skilled players. The kid is a tiny ball of energy who has the ability to play with skill. A little like Gallagher in MTL.

As for Morin...would love for him to make a physical impact early and often. Just make sure to keep the opposition honest.

Maybe they are showcasing Morin lol.
Pieces are in place for the future. We still need a top pairing defenseman and a scoring winger. Doesn't look like we are going to get anything from Free Agency or a trade due to our cap limitations. Development years ahead.
