  • Islanders secure land for arena

    https://www.tsn.ca/report-islanders-...k-bid-1.948150

Belmont Park in New York will be the home of a new arena for the New York Islanders.
According to a report by Jim Baumbach of Newsday, the team's bid has been selected as the winner to develop the land, located just outside New York City.
New York City FC of MLS were also in contention to build a stadium on the land.

The Islanders are looking to build an 18,000 seat arena that, according to Newsday, the team says would host 150 events annually and also have retail space, a hotel and an “innovation center” developed with resident input.
The Islanders have played at Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the last three seasons after leaving Nassau Coliseum in 2015.
Pieces are in place for the future. We still need a top pairing defenseman and a scoring winger. Doesn't look like we are going to get anything from Free Agency or a trade due to our cap limitations. Development years ahead.

NY state Economic Development committee approved the stadium build, apparently they still need an envitonmental committee approval.

I guess Queens is better than Nassau.

Seems like there's a serious conflict of interest on the environmental committee.....
"When over a quarter of young adults are too fat to fight, we need to take notice," Barnett said. He noted that national security in the year 2030 is "absolutely dependent" on reversing child obesity rates
