  • Pepsi or Coke at Phantoms games this fall?

Hockey fans still have a few months to wait for the Oct. 3 opening of the Adirondack Phantoms debut season at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

But there’s another ice battle brewing — as in icy cold soft drinks.

Pepsi and Coke are competing for pouring rights at the city-owned arena, said Jason Blumenfeld, the arena’s general manager.

The arena’s contract with Pepsi ran out the end of May, he said.

Pepsi has had a long-term relationship with the arena, but the return of the American Hockey League, and the potential to sell more product, has sparked a sudden interest from Coke, said 5th Ward Councilman Bennet Driscoll, who also is the city’s Civic Center contract administrator.

Civic Center management will handle the negotiations and make a recommendation to the city Common Council, which has the final approval, said Mayor John “Jack” Diamond.

Blumenfeld said he expects negotiations will be wrapped up in about two weeks.
