  • Phantoms co-owner anticipates NHL draft

Adirondack Phantoms co-owner Rob Brooks said Monday that he is eagerly awaiting the National Hockey League entry draft this weekend to see what players the Philadelphia Flyers will select.

The Phantoms are the American Hockey League affiliate of the Flyers.

First round picks will be on Friday, with rounds two-seven on Saturday, according to the NHL Web site.

    Philadelphia picks 21st.

Brooks said he and his staff are excited as they prepare for the debut season at the Glens Falls Civic Center.

The management is looking to outfit players in a special commemorative jersey for the Oct. 3 opening game.

Brooks said he and his brother have a long-term commitment to Glens Falls.

“Some people think that we’re only there for a year, but we’re thinking a lot longer than that,” he said. “We do have a three-year lease agreement with an option for more, and it’s really Jim and my goal to set it up so there’s a long-term AHL presence in Glens Falls.”
