  • Friday night draft: Did the Phantoms just get worse?

During the first round of Friday night’s NHL draft, the Philadelphia Flyers - who as most of you know are the parent club of The Phantoms - *picked up defenseman Chris Pronger from the Anaheim Ducks.

In return, the Flyers traded away*their first-round picks for 2009 and*2010,*in addition to defenseman Luca Sbisa (the 1st round pick in 2008 and one of team’s top prospects), and 25-year-old forward Joffrey Lopul.

Draft picks are generally allowed to play in the AHL at the age of 20, or two years after they are drafted. Despite the consideration that #1 picks can virtually make the jump right up to the big club and not even see the AHL, based on tonight’s trade it looks like it will be awhile before Glens Falls sees any future first-round selections.
