  • Phantoms need a new captain

Catching up on a piece of news that happened while I was on vacation.

Boyd Kane, who captained the Phantoms to a Calder Cup in 2004-05 and was the captain again last season, signed with the Hershey Bears. It’s not his first stint in central Pennsylvania. He captained the 05-06 Bears to a Calder Cup title. According to the Harrisburg Patriot-News,*Kane is*one of only two players to captain different teams to titles in consecutive years.

The right winger has been consistent the last two seasons: 17 goals and 43 points in 58 games*last season and 18 goals and 44 points in 57 games*in the prior. *

This comes as a disappointment to me, only because I was dying to write a story about Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Kane’s hometown. Really, has anyone ever heard of a cooler name for a town than that?

Joking aside, a serious question for the Philadelphia followers on this blog: how big of a loss is his leadership? Who would you like to see as the next captain?
