  • Phantoms to offer Zamboni rides during hockey intermissions

The Glens Falls Civic Center is adding a new attraction for the upcoming Adirondack Phantoms debut season — Zamboni rides.

Civic Center management recently ordered a passenger seat for the arena’s ice surfacing equipment, according to a recent management report to the city Common Council.

The seat will enable a passenger to ride along and wave at the crowd when ice is being resurfaced during intermissions at hockey games, said Jason Blumenfeld, the arena’s general manager.

Several scenarios for determining*who gets to ride*are being considered, such as selecting a “lucky fan” from the crowd, letting fans ride on their birthdays, or letting team sponsors ride to promote their businesses, said Mike Thompson, the team’s vice president of operations.

It probably will be a combination of those scenarios, he said.

The Phantoms paid for the cost of the seat, Blumenfeld said.
