  • Phantoms games to be broadcast on 101.7 FM

The biggest news to come out of Tuesday’s press conference introducing*new Phantoms coach Greg Gilbert came before he even got to speak.

Owen Newkirk, the team’s radio play-by-play guy, announced their games will be broadcast on WENU 101.7 FM, an Adirondack Broadcast Company station. According to this site, it’s a 4,800 kilowat Class A station.

I’m not familiar with the station, but I’m*told the signal should reach into the Adirondacks, into Saratoga County and across the border into Vermont. Anyone in those areas want to give us a test and check it out? I’ll report back later how it works in Saratoga, where I live.

This is the family of stations that includes Froggy 107.1 country, 100.3 The Point, and ESPN Radio 1230.

Newkirk said that the deal is for all 80 games and the playoffs. Nothing will bump the Phantoms off at any time.

At this point, there is nothing firm about any other Phantoms content on the station.
