  • Phantoms unveil ?retro? sweaters (w/photo)

Those of you who were clamoring for the word “Adirondack” to appear on the Phantoms sweaters, you’re getting your wish — for 12 games at least.

Wednesday at the Civic Center the team unveiled the jersey it will wear for all 12 games of the season series against Albany, starting with Saturday’s home game. The*white sweater with orange trim mirrrors the old Red Wings design, with the word “Adirondack” in block lettering diagonally across the front. Looks pretty cool. If you’ve been waiting for a design that paid homage to the teams old old, this is it. (See photo at bottom of post). What do you think?

Captain Jared Ross, who along with David Laliberte fired pucks at a River Rats logo in goal to reveal the new jerseys, said he liked the “old school” design. Ross said he’s now the second person in his family to wear the famed Adirondack sweater. His uncle Tom Ross played three games with the Red Wings in 1979-80.

Here are some business-type updates on the upcoming weekend:

*– Phantoms VP Mike Thompson said he’s anticipating* another standing-room only crowd on Saturday night when Albany visits.

    – Through two games, the Phantoms averaged 4,498 fans. That’s 14th in the 29 team AHL. That’s a real solid number, but Thompson said he’d like to see an average of 4,000 fans on non-Saturday games. For more of that, check out Thursday’s print story.

    – Glens Falls Mayor John “Jack” Diamond issued the standard betting challenges to the Albany mayor about the outcome of the team’s 12 game series, which is being sponsored by Time Warner. If you’re really curious what’s on the line, check out the print story.

Awesome. Love it. LOVE IT! I'd get one of them before one of the Flyers reeboks.
