  • Phantoms in finals, video game says

What’s British Columbia like in the spring? The Phantoms will be finding out, according to a highly scientific study done by a video game.

*EA Sports NHL 10 video game conducted a simulated AHL season and the results were good for Adirondack: it has the Phantoms advancing to the Calder Cup Finals before falling to Abbotsford in seven games.

The simulation has the Phantoms finishing fourth in the division — behind first place Albany –but knocking off Albany, Hershey and Worcester in the playoffs. Albany fans, take heart: it has your River Rats finishing first overall in the league with 101 points.

According to the company, the game came it’s conclusion using “artificial intelligence or logic of NHL10 that uses real-life data from each player. Results are extrapolated when two teams play based on player ratings and line combinations and include variances such as injuries and hot streaks to give a realistic outcome of a game or series.”

I’m sure the Brooks Brothers are already reserving the charter to Abbotsford. My kidding aside, it’s fun to think about. You can check out the article by clicking here.

Special thanks to a sharp-eyed reader who passed this along.
