  • Road report: Norfolk 2, Phantoms 1 (OT)

The Philadelphia fans who welcomed their team back to the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia on Friday saw a good representation of the kind of hockey we’ve seen in Glens Falls all season: good goaltending, too little offense.

Johan Backlund was as sharp as he’s been in a few games, making 34 saves on 36 shots. But the offense looked more like the one that has a league-low 45 goals in 21 games than the one that scored seven in it’s two prior. Their only goal came on a puck that went off Krys Kolanos’ skate.

Phantoms captain Jared Ross*said on the radio intermission report with broadcaster Owen Newkirk that the team had “underachieved” so far. He also said he had underachieved himself, with just one goal in 16 games.

Injury report:According to coach Greg Gilbert on the pregame show, Kevin Marshall was out with an injury on Wednesday night and is questionable for the rest of the weekend. There’s a chance Josh Beaulieu may return on Saturday. Joonas Lehtivuori is doubtful for the weekend.

    – Backlund will start two of the three games this weekend, but Gilbert wouldn’t commit to a Saturday starter.

Phantoms page debuts: Print readers, look for a new and expanded Phantoms page in Saturday’s paper! The weekly column moves inside to page 5 and gets an extended notes package with it. You can also find stats and a photo there. Check it out. Of course, you can still read the column on our main hockey page under headlines.*We’re still working on it, but look for some new wrinkles on that page each Saturday.
