  • Meet next year?s Phantoms

The Philadelphia Flyers officially announced the signing of three players to contracts for the 2010-2011 season. In other words, meet the guys you’ll be rooting for next season.

They are: Eric Wellwood of the Windsor Spitfires and*Luke Pither of the Barrie Colts of the Ontario Hockey League, and Shane Harper of the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.

Wellwood, 19,is the brother of Kyle Wellwood, who plays for the Vancouver Canucks in the NHL. Wellwood, a sixth-round pick by the Flyers in 2009, has has 31 goals and 34 assists for 65 points and is plus-34in 61 games with Windsor. Last season, Wellwood had 34 points (16G,18A) in 61 games. Wellwood comes from a winning background: He had 21 points in 20 games to help lead Windsor the OHL championship and four points ( in six games to help Windsor win the Memorial Cup.

Pither,*20, has 87 points (34G,53A) and 42 penalty minutes and is plus-35 in 61 games this season, his first with Barrie. His 87 points leads the team. An undrafted native of Oshawa, Ontario, Pither has recorded 102 goals and 141 assists for 243 points and 155 penalty minutes in 301 regular season games over parts of five seasons in the OHL.

Harper, 21, from the hockey hotbed of Valencia, Calif., has 74 points (39G, 35A) and is plus-32 in 66 games with Everett this season. His 74 points and 39 goals lead the team. He has posted 71 goals and 140 points over the last two seasons with Everett.

All of these guys are older players for junior leagues and are on good teams, so don’t be too excited by the high scoring numbers. But they look to be solid prospects and it will be fun to see them here next season.
