  • Former Phantoms goalie adding to junior legacy

As a commenter pointed out in the other thread, Nic Riopel’s Moncton Wildcats won the President’s Cup on Monday night, the trophy awarded to the QMJHL champions. Riopel will next play for the overall junior title in the Memorial Cup tournament.

As I wrote after the season, the Flyers forfeited their rights to Riopel when they sent him back to juniors. He’s free to sign with any club. If either Riopelor Carter Hutton end up having* a significantly*better AHL than whoever the Phantoms get as a starter (Sergei Bobrovsky, Brian*Stewart, etc.), the Flyers are going to have some ’splaining to do. – Great story about*how Riopel was the last to touch the Cup and presented it to the owner.

    – And a Memorial Cup preview with some good details on Riopel’s season.
